RAC or anyone else ?

Our RAC membership has risen by £50 to £300 this year we haven't used them for a breakdown since 1998 !
So who do you use and are they any good and cheaper ?

Nearly fainted when I read the letter.

I don't use breakdown services, well I do but mine gets renewed every time I get it serviced, green flag are supposed to be good, just make sure everything is included in your cover, if you change

I get AA cover free with my annual Ford service, saving £50-70 on previous separate breakdown cover.

I use Start Rescue. Used them a couple of times and they have always arrived on time.

Re: RAC or anyone else ?

go with green flag they cover he car not the driver. So anyone driving that car is covered The AA only cover the driver and a rip off

Green flag for us with cover for two cars and any driver for either car is £80 a year

So what is the difference and why?

The AA and RAC have their own patrol people and vehicles and that is what you are paying for.

Green flag (and others?) uses local garages on an agency type basis usually, and therefore keep the costs down and a quicker recovery service as well

Typical...offer you the moon to get you to join up...then rely on the old British habit of 'can't be bothered to change' to rip off the old faithful customers. Same with Virgin,British Gas, and car insurance.
I shop around every year.

Just been reading the August Issue of Auto Express, GEM Motoring Assist awarded best breakdown cover voted by users, has an app that provides your location to the technicians, no mention of prices but maybe worth a look.

Best insurer was NFU mutual

Re: RAC or anyone else ?

I swap between the AA and RAC,this year the AA will have paid for itself,15% off a van I had to hire to move the daughter,20% off of a couple of meals in some outlets they have agreements with. The cover I have is for the car only and the reg is on my membership card.
