Re: Autumn adventures.

Not much to report due to westerly winds at the moment, however the west coast is getting plenty of chances to see Leaches storm petrels. Only seen one myself,.

Llast few days seems to have had an explosion of Red Admiral Butterflies, and Bumblebees they love this plant still in flower.

Also noticed swarm of Speckled wood butterflies when passing the waggonway on the bus.

Other interesting species reported locally.

Red-backed shrike.

Red-knecked phalarope.

And Corys Shearwater.

This last one is a bogie bird for me.

Feeling colder now and with Northerlies predicted for the weekend i hope to do some seawatching.

Re: Autumn adventures.

Weekend was what i have been waiting for, thanks to Supermoms weather site. https://www.windy.com/?54.718,-3.494,6 it enabled a good view of the prevailing winds that were NNE and so a bout of seawatching was on.

On Arrival at St Marys it was noticable there wer lots of House Martins on the move.

I set up in shelter from the wind and immediately it was apparent that birds were at sea and migrating. 2 very close in Manx Shearwaters glided by.

Later a single Balearic Shearwater was observed as well as some Sooty Shearwaters.

So settled in and enjoyed some great passage as Brent and Pinkfoot Geese, several Red-throated diver and over 1000 Gannet streamed by.

Wildfowl were also busy hundreds of Wigeon and Teal, along with Common Scoter an 2 Velvet Scoter passed North.

Widgeon.

Saturday and Sunday were much the same with steady passage but Skuas stood ot on Sunday with both Arctic And Great skuas moving South.

Red-throated diver.

Brent Goose.

Teal.

Re: Autumn adventures.

You had a brilliant sea watch Nom. I haven't done that for a long time. I think I do have life ticks for most of the birds you mentioned seeing, when I used to bird watch avidly. I used to mark them off in my Collins guide. No camera in those days.
