The Guardian has published a document stamped Highly Sensitive regarding Immigration from the EU.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics...sa-mays-brexit

It is an interesting read.

"The document also proposes to keep the current light-touch border checks for EU nationals rather than impose a vast new pre-entry visa system."

So people will just disappear into the ether and find work without paying tax, which is what happened before the EU expansion.

Hi

Spot on Annie.

We are also keeping the Common Movement Area with Ireland, which makes a mockery of the entire thing.

That's rubbish. There has always been a freedom of movement arrangement with Ireland since long before we joined the Common Market, let alone The EU.
It's a precious and valued arrangement that should be maintained at all costs and is far more important than any arrangement with the EU.

As for Immigration document.......if that is a true reflection of the Gov't's thinking then it seems to be pretty much what the majority of the UK electorate were asking for.

What's the problem ?

Hi

The Irish are EU Citizens.

The proposed new system will not work, glaring holes in it.

The same holes that we have in our current system, which is why we have so many illegals here.

I am always a bit cynical about so called 'leaks'.

They seem to be a way of testing the water, seeing what the reaction is so they can later tweak or deny.

Hi

I agree, however in this instance there is a huge Witch Hunt going on for the leak.

They have no chance of finding out where, because the document was wrongly classified.

The leak was Political not Civil Service.

Re: Immigration Document Leaked.

Nothing there that is too worrying. The current situation, after all, cannot continue after Brexit. The proposed plans seem to work very well in other countries such as Australia. At least the government is taking note of the concerns of those who voted Leave because of the sheer numbers of immigrants coming in.

I know that one has to be earning over £18,000 in order to bring their spouse into the country at the moment if they live outside the EU. It's cruel but necessary as the figures are higher than those coming in from the EU. I would imagine if TM plans to extend this to EU nationals, it will certainly bring down the number of Immigrants from the Baltic countries!
Whether one agrees with this or not, at least this government hopefully are making plans to bring the numbers down, which has to be a plus.
