Smelly Memories

I had a flashback to primary school when using Dove soap this morning. I think it was a similar smell to a teacher's perfume or something.
Autumn reminds me of the smell of the local greengrocers shop, I went there with my Mum to buy veg for stews and other warming meals.
It's funny how most visual memories are triggered by us conjouring them up, but smells can put them in our minds for us.

Or am I weird?
Any smelly memory triggers for you?

Tessa darlin' - the smell of the pudding cloth in the saucepan as it wrapped around a bacon suet pudding Dragon was cooking.

The smell of 'stockholm tar'.

The smell of the sea and salt air.

Re: Smelly Memories

It's an interesting subject because losing the sense of smell is one early sign of alzheimers (the "peanut butter" test). Just goes to show how strong the memory area of the brain vs scent connection is.

Lol,You've just reminded Me about soap ads when I was a teenager..I asked My Mum to buy me Pink Camay soap.I just loved the smell of that soap.but of course My daft Dad & Bro's started calling Me Miss pink camay bum and would sing 'You'll be a little lovelier each day with wonderful pink camay' for days after. ...I wonder if it's still around in the shops.

Re: Smelly Memories

I was allergic to Camay soap as a youngster. Seem to remember everyone got free samples through the post when it was introduced and when the Doc saw my skin straight asked if I'd used the free soap!

Re: Smelly Memories

The smell of horse & stables. If I go anywhere where they are nearby, best perfume in the World & so many memories. Working with horses after a while I never noticed the smell of the stables, but the smell of warm horse I never lost that, even when I had been with horses for ages.

Ooo yes that's a nice one Tiff.
There was a big dollop down the lane this morning, one sniff and it took me back years to gymkhana days!

Re: Smelly Memories

The olfactory system (sense of smell) is the most primitive sense we possess.
It's fascinating how it triggers memories...

For me it's the smell of Germolene
