Python found lurking in bathroom toilet in Southend

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-41122975

A five-year-old boy was shocked to discover a python inside his toilet when he lifted up the lid.

He was "frantic" when he found it in the bathroom at home in Southend, Essex, his mother Laura Cowell said.

Specialists from pet shop Scales and Fangs came to the rescue, removing the harmless 3ft (91cm) baby royal python.

"It smelt of bleach and a bit toilet-y," Ethan Pinion from the store said. The snake "most likely came up the u-bend" and is expected to recover fully.
What else is down there just waiting to bite your bum .....

I like snakes, but must admit it would be a bit unnerving to find one in the loo.

Poor animal.. I wonder if it will survive, they are very prone to upper respitory infections and I doubt being down a cold Ubend will have done it any good,,

It is such a shame that these magnificent animals are sold to anyone with the cash to splash never mind if they have the knowledge or money to care for the animal..

I daresay this was a pet that someone had become tired of and flushed it.
My daughter and her partner have exotics and are frequently called apon to take in some poor snake lizard or other animal that owners have lost interest in or cant afford to feed and house properly.

Re: Python found lurking in bathroom toilet in Southend

Many, many years ago I was staying with my girlfriend's family in Innisfail in northern Qld. Her younger brother (about 12 at the time) had a 1.5m pet carpet python which roamed the house and kept the place free of small furry creatures. I always found it a bit unnerving sharing the house with this thing until the wet season when the back yard flooded (as it always did) and a 2 metre saltwater croc swam past the kitchen window; after that a carpet snake seemed quite friendly.

I think snakes are beautiful creatures and I have held a few, but I really prefer them to be free and living a natural life.
If they are kept in enclosures, aren't we just making them our prisoners?

Now that would have freaked me out, hope the little boy doesn't have nightmares.

I was once chased into a ladies loo by a man with a snake sounds implausible I know but it's true. I was out on a girls night out and we ended up in a cabaret bar. For some reason the man doing what was supposed to be an erotic show with a snake singled me out for special treatment...I ran to the nearest exit but the man followed me.

Irony is the night out was organised by The Catholic Ladies Toddler Group... I never went on one of their nights out again
