Re: I do love a good thunderstorm

Water has now subsided, just some large pools on the main road according to daughter who has just driven through it...the following is a public broadcast message to all ladies involved in the Rehab Rescue....
’Ladies, stand down, switch off your hormones, Rehab is safe, Thank you for the messages of love, lust and concern, Rehab appreciates the offers especially those involving mild pain, whipped cream and position 28 of the Karma Sutra ( is that possible? ) ‘

Re: I do love a good thunderstorm

We haven't had any storms here but I've seen the problems some are having with floods. Hope you are able to get down from the roof now Rehab.

That's good for any mains surges that might happen but the aerial also needs to be worried about. Lightning striking the aerial and coming down the co-ax lead is not unknown.

I saw a case where this had happened. The co-ax lead ran along the window ledge right past the budgie cage. The co-ax melted, the budgie was killed, the TV aerial socket and TV tuner blew up. The TV didn't work at all, probably because of other damage.

However, it was the only case of lightning hitting an aerial that I came across during in my 33 years in the trade. Since then, I've often thought I should unplug the aerial lead during a thunderstorm but I don't often do it. I'm a bit reluctant to touch it while a storm is overhead. It would be just my luck to have the lightning strike just as I grab hold of the plug.

My mother was on the phone in my family home in the late 50s when lightning struck the phone cable, and she was thrown across the room. Fortunately she was more shocked than hurt.

We are reminded that these things do actually happen. I am not bothered by thunderstorms but at my last address, a house was hit a hundred yards or so up the road and virtually burnt to the ground. It's the first time I had seen it as a result of a storm.
