Before you throw out that old computer

Remember that first PC you got ,was fine for a couple of years ,then as technology advanced on ,you moved on to bigger and better things,and that first PC was relegated to the attic ,or worse dumped .Check out the one below .It was given to me by a workmate for free.Its a dell dimension 3000 from 2004.Dell must have made millions of these things and sold them to the public.This one came with a whopping 256mb of ram(lol)and a single core celeron CPU.When I got it I upped the ram to 1gig of ddr .As it is not possible to install any windows beyond 7 on this I opted for a lightweight Linux instead and chose zorin os 9 lite.Its perfect for old hardware like this,and has a sort of windows feel about it.When I first installed it(from USB) I put libre office ,chromium(that's the open sourced version of chrome,looks exactly the same) and vlc media player on it,as this is Linux it does not need any antivirus .This runs amazing on this old machine and is completely safe.Also it recognised my WiFi network adaptor straight away.

My first PC was a System 80 followed by a Commodore 64 but I think they have had their day and deserve to be dumped.

I have one old Dell Laptop running Ubuntu 14.01 (I think that is right) which works very well for what it is used for but because I use VBA a lot there is no real replacement for Windows.

My NASs run a Linux Server of course.
