I have never really been a single buyer, only amassing around half a dozen since my first, which was...As the person in the record shop had to unpack a box to give it to me, I was probably the first person in town to have it. It still sounds good.

There was a group of us who had a 'club hut' with a record player in it. We all chipped in a bit of cash to buy singles. As I remember, the first one we bought was Shakin' All Over by Johnny Kidd and the Pirates, so that was partly my first 45.A year later, I heard Acker Bilk playing Stranger On The Shore and that was the first one I bought on my own. I also bought a clarinet.
We only had an old wind up gramophone at the time.
