Re: Beards and cooking.

They do have to wear protection on beards and moustaches https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=be...g&ved=0CCAQsAQ but depend where in production they work. When my husband was bearded he had to wear restraint in the production area but not in the serving area.

Sorry Julie but, I had to chuckle, your last sentence and my interpretation of it!

Re: Beards and cooking.

Yes, we do have to wear face masks in food production areas. I've been in a number of these areas and had to wear a hat and face mask.

This is nothing compared to working in computer 'clean rooms' which were thousands of times cleaner than food prep areas, operating theatres etc.. The women (and occasionally men) had to remove all makeup, jewelry etc.. and scrub up before putting on hair nets, one piece overalls with hoods and face masks. It was strange because you got to recognise people by small things like eye colour etc.. and then you wouldn't recognise them outside unless they spoke.

Some girls seemed a bit OTT - putting on makeup to go out to lunch and then having to wash it all off again afterwards.

In Walmart, USA, the chaps who serve on the DELI, have to wear a net over the beard, although it looks a little strange at first, it makes perfect common sense to me.

I agree, beards should be covered. And go with the yeuk!

But I used to watch the lovely Gino d'Campo (sp?) and wish he'd cover his head. It was always 'over' the food.

It's the food in the beard that turns my stomach. Nothing worse than a manky beard

I've got a beard and cook every night. The only hairs I've noticed are from my head
