Think that's the wrong link Muddy. You are right though plastics are such a problem and we need to stop using them where possible. Single use water bottles should be banned that's for sure.

Plastics in the water also produce artificial amounts of chemicals that affect the sexuality of species .

The throw away society we live in will not stop without legislation IMO

I've always made my lot carry a refillable bottle and we have a water filter at home. Much less waste.

It’s not just plastic water bottles, the government should ban plastic packaging - we don’t need to buy fruit, veg, etc wrapped in plastic. We don’t need plastic wrapped meat. Liquid soap is unnecessary- what’s wrong with a tablet of soap. The list goes on.

I agree about the food all that wrapping is a pain too.
I tend to buy unwrapped veggies

Plastics have the potential to be a bigger threat to the planet and it's fauna than fossil fuels.

Re: Plastics and the Oceans

Great program and it's one we have here in various forms. I like the idea of having recycling stations around places where bottles are used frequently like airports, shopping malls, fast food restaurants, etc. but someone who has collected a few hundred of the things are going to need an alternate method.

For those who don't believe there is a plastics problem, look at this place at the southern tip of the big island of Hawai'i. Every month more than a ton of garbage, mostly plastic, washes ashore. Fortunately, volunteers regularly go in an clean it up. (I did it a couple of times and it's nasty work)....and it's only a fraction.
