Anti virus suite, renewal

I use Bitdefender AV suite 2013, for 3 PCs. I have just less than 30 days till it expires.

An email offered renewal to Newer Edition for £14.99. Click on Buy Now. Price? £19.99!! No sign of the lower offer. . Flippin cheeck.

I disabled it on the netbook and use free AVG because of conflict with the router on Wi fi. I think I'll go back to it for the desk/lap tops.

I've never paid for any security software as there's some decent free versions that work very well.
I use Microsoft Security Essentials and Zone Alarm, also Superantispyware and Malwarebytes that give me a good layer of protection

Re: Anti virus suite, renewal

Bitdefender is reckoned to have one of the best detection engines. It could be worth considering keeping if it is working well for you and since it's not hugely expensive. Below are links to 3 popular comparison charts. Although it is security suites under test, I think the the AV (only) programs will use the same detection engines as the suites:

www.av-test.org/en/tests/home-user/ (once on the page, click on the operating system being used).

www.av-comparatives.org/dynamic-tests/ (click the 'graph' image).

www.virusbtn.com/vb100/latest_comparative/index (click the graph to zoom).

As well as taking note of advice, comparison charts can help with deciding what to do for the best.

We used to use AVG but when my husband got a new laptop that came with one years Norton 360 free and you could extend the protection to 2 other devices so we used that. Was so impressed we renewed when time came and it was only £40 for all 3 devices so that seemed reasonable.

Re: Anti virus suite, renewal

I'm still reluctant to renew with Bitdefender because I still think it conflicts with my wifi. I have to plug in an ethernet cable for the internet, yet my netbook, which has BD disabled and has free AVG, works well.
