I have just worked out it is 45 years since I went to Carlisle to pick up a dog we were buying.
I had taken directions from the owner (a friend of my boss) on the telephone and copied them down exactly including the final one which was 'it is the house with newspaper at the windows, we can't afford curtains'.

I hadn't realised it was a joke and when we got there and there was no newspaper everyone had a laugh at my expense

Strange joke Meg, I think that might have put me off going!
