Happy Birthday Vera ,My Dad loved You.
She was a WW2 icon and kept the troupes happy, which is why she should be praised. Although I was born five years after WW2 ended, it was a major part of my childhood as my home island had been invaded, and evidence of the occupation was all around us for many years. My childhood home had hosted 13 Germans and they left many of their belongings behind, including helmets and ammunition. I got the trashing of my life when I was ten for kicking a live grenade around like a football!
A German war artist, who resided in our home, did a serious of cartoons of public figures, which were framed and displayed on our landing throughout my childhood. They were probably worth a lot of money, but my siblings and I decided to donate them to the library of which my father had been the chief director at one time.
