Re: Anyone had a prostate biopsy ?

Prostate Cancer UK have a helpline you can call at any time. They also have various support lines and information booklets which cover just about every type of prostate cancer and all the various treatments available.
I also bought a book to provide my friend with the most uptodate information and worldwide treatments at that time - called Prostate Cancer Breakthroughs, written by an American Doctor in 2013 which was enormously helpful. It explains all the test results and helps guide you towards the best treatment given the various results.
I also found a website giving all UK hospitals statistical records and details of NHS hospitals deemed to be centres of excellence in treating Prostate Cancer..............Thomas and St Guys has a helpline for patient or friend, and an online referral for GP's to use with a guaranteed appointment within 14 days.
Good luck............

Re: Anyone had a prostate biopsy ?

Good news no cancer, apparently he has had a low grade infection possibly for a year or more that is now being treated with antibiotics. Urologist was amazed he wasn't tested for that before they did biopsies etc.

I imagine its quite difficult to pick up if its a low grade infection, its easy to miss these things isnt it.

Yes I'm sure I think the urologist was just a bit irritated at the cost of the tests and biopsies when a blood test would have been enough. I think I can see his reasoning.

Over and done in minutes....no need for time off work for the average man, unless he's a bit of a softie.

Or on blood thinners which was why in the end he had to take two days off. No point risking bleeding to death when you can just take a couple of days holiday.
