Re: Wash your salads
OMG! I am bad enough as it i!,
When we are having a Salad with our meal (which is often in this weather) I am always being told off by he who must obey because we start to prepare everything together for the salad I tend to take ages because I trust only me to wash the Lettuce thoroughly and I know by the time I am finished the Lettuce has been screaming for mercy, but at least I know no-one need have any fear of food poisoning
It's strange but when I was in the Air Force many years ago, I was the Mess rep. Any complaints about the food - they came to see me, I had a monthly meeting with the Station Commanding Officer. so you can imagine when I went in for my meal it was always tip top.
One day I had a steak and went to the Salad Bar for a salad and took a couple of lettuce leaves. When I got back to the table the first thing I did was examine the lettuce leaves to ensure no creepy crawlies in it. I noticed that one of the leaves was curled over so opened it to examine it and found a cluster of greenfly nestled in the hidden curled up bit.
Yuk!! I walked back to the counter and asked to speak to the Chef in charge and showed him what I had found. He went bright red, apologies profusely and asked me if I was going to make a report. OF COURSE I WASN'T !! I'm no grass!!! I just told him to ensure the staff washing the lettuce made sure the leaves were cleaned thoroughly in future.
Hence the reason why my lettuce to this day screams for mercy when I wash the leaves.
