Back Ache.

I have pulled a muscle in my back today, it's very painful when I sit, stand or straighten up. Walking isn't too bad as long as I don't stand still for too long. I know it will go in time, but it's so annoying.
Does anyone else suffer from this & what do you take for the pain? I have been taking paracetamol, all I've got here, but it doesn't seem to work.

Re: Back Ache.

Wrap a bag of frozen peas in a tea towel and apply to the area for around twenty minutes. This is best done as soon as you can after the injury but it should still help to reduce swelling even now (which is the main cause of the pain) and have a numbing effect on the pain. Beats all of your tablets.

Would frozen sweet corn work?
What about baby carrots?

My doctor and physiotherapist reckon heat - not cold.

Re: Back Ache.

I'm no expert but always thought it was ice at first, to reduce any swelling immediately after the strain ..... and then warmth to help ease any stiffness that can slow healing.

When I strained my back it was getting mobility back that was the problem as I was so stiff. I used an electric heat pad on my back ...bliss ... along with gentle stretching to ease out the knots and stiff bits.

Re: Back Ache.

Agree with the ice Tiffany and the latest advice is to keep moving if you can .....gently.

I am not a fan of painkillers for that kind of pain except at bed time. The pain helps to determine the level of activity we can do so that we don't do too much.
