APOMORPHINE for PARKINSONS

I have coped with Parkinsons for over 20 years, but now the current regime of drugs are beginning to lose their effectiveness.

I have been offered APOMORPHINE injections.

I know nothing about this treatment but have agreed to go in to the hospital nearby to be trained in procedures.

Any advice or knowledge chums?

I am still only 68 & do not relish another 20 years of struggling with this disease

Re: APOMORPHINE for PARKINSONS

Not sure what to say, Apomorphine stimulates dopamine receptors which seem to be related to Parkinsons. Bear in mind I finished all that and my PhD back in 1980. There is a film called `Awakenings`

As I said my knowledge is from a long time ago. Good luck

Forget to add that film was about using l dopa-the brain is so complicated. One year its dopamine then the rage now is serotonin.

Hello Robert what does nurse Gillian say...

In your position I would do as much research as possible into the medication then make my decision .
Sorry I can't be of more help to you..

Yes do some home work. I just did and nothing much seems to have changed since the 70s. Learned papers about dopamine and the caudate nucleus. Progress in treatment? Sorry to say not much. It`s shameful.
