Re: New medication

Julie don't understand putting you on anti depressants - best to come off them, don't want to become dependant on them things

Re: New medication

My son in law had an operation on his back two weeks ago and just prior to that his doctor prescribed anti-depressants as a relaxant to help him with the pain relief and to help him sleep and he said they were what the surgeon would prescribe after the operation.

That may be why they gave them to me then, as I say I will ask on Friday. Thanks Myrtle.

Re: New medication

Some drugs commonly prescribed for certain conditions have other uses too Julie, aspirin is a great pain-killer but it is also good for blood thinning and sundry other conditions. Similarly certain drugs used as anti-depressants have other uses too.
Provided that you are on a small dose and do not take them for a long time you will not suffer addiction or withdrawal symptoms so no need to worry.

I was prescribed them too - thought they 'may' help with the pins and needles, did not have a good affect on me - stopped taking them, never to return

Re: New medication

Low dose antidepressants are often useful in nerve pain, so I suspect that is the reason you have them. As for the steroids, they can make you feel happy and even manic! I'd guess it's the steroids that are having the current effect. Nice to hear you happy, though!

That is the general public conception, but it is not that simple. I think I've said this before somewhere, so at risk of repeating myself…
Targets are set for a percentage of those eligible to be given statins or advised re statin use/benefit. A GP may discuss statins with a patient but the patient has the freedom to decline them if he/she is fully informed by the GP. As far as the payment of GPs is concerned, if the medical records record a discussion of statins and that the patient has declined statins then that patient is included in target numbers. So it is not the prescribing of statins that leads to payment for targets met, rather the discussing of information regarding statins so the patient can decide with their GP

Re: New medication

Just back from the go she is very pleased with my progress because it means at first time I suspect I am becoming ill next time I can take the Medes and avoid ending in the wheelchair hopefully. Best news I have had health wise for ages.
