Britain is not a nation of immigrants

We are forever hearing that we are a nation of immigrants .
Are rather we are being told in order to fool us into thinking that the immigration issue is nothing unusual.
Actually we are not and never have been a nation of immigrants .
The present level of immigration is completely unprecedented.

Multiculturalism and being British cannot be separated because this nation is built on the multicultural British Empire.

Hi

There is a limit to how many we can take and integrate.

Diane Abbott has said Labour will allow more in,we need to manage Immigration.

Of course but you cannot say that Britain is not a nation of immigrants. What would Britain be without the Empire? A lot poorer for a start. As ye reap so ye shall sow and all that....make your bed and lie in it, etc.

Re: Britain is not a nation of immigrants

Isn't every European country a nation of immigrants ? Why do we single ourselves out as the ' one and only' with this subject ?
Give a hundred years and we'll all be of mixed race, just like USA. Those who put the motion of globalisation into operation.
Best start brainwashing the grandchildren into not mixing with immigrants and telling them they'll be cut out of mum and dads Will

There will be one or two races that purposely avoid such abominations.

Re: Britain is not a nation of immigrants

Every European nation is not a nation of recent immigration, just those that had empires. Europe was a melting pot because of its geography and invasions but not for a couple of hundred years. We were a melting pot too before, more so than many islands but the recent influx is down to our recent past. The big changes in ethnicity are there in all former empires. At the end of the day the world has no castles or moats these days and we are one human race. We either deal with it (accept it as fact), or live with heads buried in sand.

The present level of immigration is completely unprecedented.
We were first settled by the Celts, who later moved to the west and north of the island.
Then came the Romans, but most of them left.
Later, came Angles, Saxons and Jutes, most of whom remain.
Norsemen followed and eventually intermarried with the Anglo-Saxons.
Then in 1066, the date that every schoolboy (and girl) used to know, the Normans (more Norsemen) came and conquered the land. Again, intermarriage.

So in a way, we are a mongrel nation but for the past thousand years we have become one nation and, despite different origins, have become one people.

Since then, we have been visited by all sorts of odds and sods, but only in relatively small numbers, none who have made any great changes to our country, and certainly nothing to its detriment.

As you quite rightly say, Muddy, the present level of immigration is unprecedented in its numbers. Worse than that, many are causing all sorts of trouble and, in common with those of a certain religion who came here in numbers since the second world war, are demanding that we change to suit them.

The last 'immigrants' who made such demands, and succeeded, were the Normans, although they did this by right of conquest.

What we are seeing now is not exactly a conquest, but is just as frightening and, assuming we allow it to continue, could be just as consequential. Our future new rulers?
