Tit for Tat

I see that Donald Trump is crying the poor tale because China has retaliated to the US's imposition of tariffs on imported Chinese steel and aluminium by creating a few tariffs of their own. What did he expect? That the Chinese should roll over and accept it? The tariffs are expected to hit the US for around $3bn .

No doubt he will throw his dummy out of the pram and escalate things further.

Trump's playing a dangerous game internationally but domestically he is a winner.

In fairness, financially , China will lose this battle as they export many billions$ more to the USA than they import.

Hi

This is the problem with WTO Rules.

A wave of protectionism is not want we want at this time, everybody will be looking for an advantage and seeking to protect their own Industries.

We can already see this affecting the UK.

We assumed that we could just transfer over the existing Trade Deals we had with 40odd other Countries as part of the EU.

This has not been the case and complaints have been lodged to the WTO by some.

We need to up our game.

Why should China have advantageous tax deals in order to flood the world with plastic tat?

Hi

They don't.

They have WTO Tariffs, it is just that their manufacturing costs are so low.

Guy lives in Taiwan, the markup on products made there and sold in the UK is outrageous.

Taiwan has a good standard of living, better than the UK.

Until I became ill, I regularly visited Thailand, one place in particular.

You can buy Next clothing and shoes for less than 10% of the price they are sold here in the UK direct from the Factories.

Re: Tit for Tat

Many farmers and ginseng growers in America voted for Trump per the news, now do not know what they will do if China follows through. Almost all the ginseng goes to the Chinese market and much of the Soybean produce. But what is a lost market for America will be welcomed pickup for other countries.
