Ireland, WOW! Piccy thread 1.

Stage one of our grand tour, taking in the whole of the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

We set off from Zumerzet and spent the night in Holyhead before catching the high speed faerie to Eire.

Now that's what I call low flying.

Land ahead, fine on the larboard bow! Our first sight of the Emerald Isle.

Dublin port ...

... and Dublin starboard.

From Dublin, we drove down to County Wexford in the south east, where we stayed just outside Waterford (of crystal fame). From there we explored the sights of the county and coastline.

The toll bridge over the river Suir that passes through Waterford city.

Arthurstown harbour.

The sign at the entrance to this town says, Welcome to Cheekpoint.
We were just in time to witness the regatta in full swing.

The ferry heading from Passage East to Ballyhack on the river Barrow.

Passage East harbour.

The river has a fair old flow as can be seen by the tidal race on the ferry pilings.

Looking upstream. Shear natural beauty.

A medieval craft centre.

Dunbrody Abbey after King Henry the 8th did some serious remodelling.

The lighthouse at the end of the spectacular Hook Peninsula.

One of the peninsula locals.

Thunderbirds are GO! A Rocket Rescue cart. This would be towed to the shore if a ship got into difficulties and rockets fired with lines attached. Survivors would then be pulled ashore via breeches buoy. It as estimated that 6500 lives were saved by these, and the RNLI/CRBI boats and aircraft around Ireland's shores.

Floats and anchors outside the lighthouse.

It took me a while to clamber over rocks and manoeuvre myself into a position to get the sporadic sunlight in just the right place. I hope you think the effort was worth it.

A dredger dredging the river Barrow at New Ross.

Good morning Mister President. How bis? A bronze on the riverbank at New Ross of JFK whose ancestors came from the area.

The busy harbour at Kilmore Quay.

A few shots of the harbour residents.

After this, we moved on to County Kerry in the south west of the island. More pics to follow but this will be dependent on internet access at the next holiday cottage.

Glad to hear you are having a lovely time fruity, have enjoyed the pictures

When do you head up here? The weather is really bad, roads are flooded as the fields just can't take any more water. Still it's still pretty warm
