I'm not sure its the same thing Susie darlin' - my Consultant keeps mentioning different figures. Apparently we're supposed to have between 150,000 and 400,000 platelets. Back in March I only had 2000. Had to have five bags of plasma which pushed my platelet levels above 50,000 - enough to let them discharge me from hospital. Have subsequently had to have a course of chemo-therapy. Whilst platelet levels are now higher, still not back to normal levels and I'm beginning to think that they never will be back to full level which will give me the same level of stamina I had before.

Platelets are to do with blood clotting surely, but stamina is down to red blood cells which carry the oxygen?

How about an electric wheel chair just for those long marches, they are much smaller than the scooters and pretty good for going for a walk. Friend of ours walks her two hounds using hers, she couldn't do that with the bigger scooters.

No Julie darlin' - they don't know what is causing it and therefore can't suggest anything which might affect it (I've asked). I see the Consultant next Tuesday so maybe I'll find some answers then, but he has spoken to the day care staff (who I've been talking to) that if the platelets drop below 60,000 then I may have to restart Chemotherapy again.

I'm very sorry to hear that Uj, let's hope things are looking up by time you see him. I know you aren't a believer but you'll be in my prayers tonight.

Good grief, terribly sorry to hear about the decline in your counts, UJ. What is the mechanism that would the chemotherapy do to increase your counts? I always thought that chemo caused thrombocypenia or could make it worse. Wouldn't a transfusion help in the short run?

I hope you get some sort of treatment soon. It has to be frustrating!
