Re: NHS Malaise

Only one of our gps are on a big salary, he's senior partner and been there years and years. The others are not on huge salaries at all they all work part time too, they have young families they are trying to get some sort of work life balance with. It was a conscious decision they made about 10 years ago after one of our younger gps attempted suicide, the senior chap said he wasn't having that again and insists they all have as much time with their families as they do at work.

I have to say I applaud him they are happiest gps I've ever met, and grounded in a way that really makes them effective at dealing with people.

But it does cause problems because they just don't or can't cover the number of patients they have.

A private business would never run like that IMO

Re: NHS Malaise

Well Julie all i can say is that your idea of what is not a huge salary must differ from mine .
GPs earn a lot of money .
Even part time .
Probaby about £70 -£80 an hour.
Especially if they are in Surrey where prices and wages are generally higher than the national norm .
No wonder they are all happy and smiling .

Re: NHS Malaise

Rental and house sale prices round here mean you need at least £50k to live a fairly modest life. If you think we can pay gps less and expect them to live where they work then you have to accept they need these wages.

Unlike some I'm not jealous of what others earn, I'd argue we all need more and those of us at the bottom can't exist on nmw but I won't say a GP has to be paid badly just because I am.

Re: NHS Malaise

Julie we all know you are a saint .
However please don't make out that others are jealous just because they as I have done point out FACTS .
Also please don't twist the post you dont know what I think nor did I at any time suggest paying GPS less

They may be smiley and nice so are mine doesn't mean they are slumming it in a field hospital for impoverished Surreyites .

Now you are being an idiot I've never claimed to be a saint. I'm flawed like anyone else. If I was a saint I'd not be here wasting my time with you !

Hmmm - hardly six figure sums which some on here have claimed GPs earn.

Re: NHS Malaise

That has already been explained .
Older doctors who become partners in the practice do earn six figure salaries .

This article is 11years old

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...to-110000.html

I hardly think their salaries have gone down drastically .
