Why DIY is better than professionals

Spot the error

The right hand tap is so close to the wall that getting to the insert means removing the whole unit.

If that were me I would have had taps vertical. Lucky although still not leaking at the moment

Is that a built in soap dispenser to the right? I thought that was the mistake.

No problem with that even though we don't use it, hence pushed out of the way. It is the closeness of the right hand tap against the wall that is. not even enough room to remove the handle. The whole thing would have to be removed

It might be possible to swivel it through 90 degrees if you loosen the coupling underneath.

Yes, particularly if it's on flexis.

I do like the colour choice of the counter top and ceramics, blends together nice.

It's a bit silly to imply that diy is always better than a pro job RS, as I've seen many an horrendous diy job over the years that I've been called in to put right...

Hi

I have the highest regard for proper tradesmen, of which there are several on this forum.

I know my limits, I can calculate the size of foundations, structural beams etc etc.

As for actually doing it, forget it.

Barry would be in despair at my joinery, Tpin would be horrified with my brickwork.

Judd would burst out laughing at the tangle of wires under my marine aquarium, well either that or he would be suicidal.

I restore antique furniture, it takes me ages, but I find it relaxing.

No broken bits of wood, but I can square it all up, get rid of ring stains and then I re polish it.

I can also decorate, takes me ages, loads of masking tape, but a good job.

I know my limits.

A good tradesman I will happily pay for.

Re: Why DIY is better than professionals

What it actually is let me explain. The previous owner claimed to be a carpenter and had is own building company. From what i understand the company went bust due to a large contract not being paid for. i don't know if it went to court or not, but he lost or could not take on any more building work.

Judging by the stupidity he did in this place I am not surprised. For example who would use a wood brace like this to keep garage roof support structs apart?

I rest my case
