Re: Learning a new language

My grandchildren ,At least the eldest aged 5 can speak 2 languages and the 3 yr old understands already. That I suppose is the advantage of having parents from different countries The eldest Maria speaks English and Brazilian version of Portugese (slightly different i am told) and now learning Japanese

She had to leave English classes at school because she was correcting the Brazilian English teacher when the teacher made a mistake. Quite funny I thought

Same here. I learn bits then get all muddled when somebody replies. I have tried word association but no. I shall read your tips avidly

I wish you the best of luck with the language SW, it's much harder as you get older. Kids don't seem to have any problems learning languages, my little grandson (3) who's mother is Italian speaks both languages with ease.

Re: Learning a new language

I've always been rubbish at languages, French and Latin at school, yuck! Now living in Spain we have to speak Spanish and can get by. I have decided to stick to present, one future and one past tense - and that's it! I also run out of verbs at times, which is frustrating. Our house is in the middle of nowhere, so no Spanish neighbours to talk to!

Very difficult trying to remember stuff. Form a sentence, translate it and fire away. Then back comes the rapid response.......!
