You are spot on. If they can't come up with a half decent opening post they shouldn't bother.

It really doesn't bother me, I usually click on a new thread and if there is a link I'll read it but if it doesn't interest me I just don't bother following it.

I remember a chap on here who would post just a link, but follow it with a poem, which sufficed very well instead of spoken words.
