Hobson's Choice

Having watched the Film ‘excellent British film ‘Hobson’s Choice’ once again with very good acting
I would love to find a Willy Mossop like Maggie did and educate him and mould him into a confident and successful businessman.
Even in that era Maggie finally stood up to her drunken father, Henry Hobson, Bootmaker. [Charles Laughton]] who like his liquor.

I watched that again yesterday too, I also recorded it a while ago. A film that I never get tired of watching - superb acting by all throughout. I especially like the part where Hobson is conned out of £500 to pay an insurance claim only to realise that the money is going to be used as a dowry for his two remaining daughters which he previously stated he would never do. Out manoeuvred by his eldest daughter Maggie. Excellent stuff

Lovely film Judd, and filmed in Old Salford Manchester as well, so true to life as it then was.
Charles Laughton was brilliant.

A woman did this in my family, much to the outrage of her parents. She was a teacher in the late 1800's and she married a miner, which was considered to be marrying quite beneath her. They were snobby in those days! She taught him how to read and write and he became a fairly well-off businessman in later years. She was quite a woman by all accounts!

I love these old films, and have not seen that one for donkeys. Had the lovely Prunella Scales in it as well.
