Another reason is that the production company, Yorkshire Television, has been defunct for several years now.
Some of their excellent programmes, such as Countdown and Emmerdale, were taken over by the so-called parent collective company (ITV) but several others have also been discontinued.
I do think that since ITV reformed and the 15 separate regional companies amalgamated, quality generally has suffered. To me, the great attraction of the ITV companies was that each had its own character quite apart from its regional bias. In addition, the ITV companies regularly 'outsold' the BBC with regard to viewer numbers. Unfortunately, now, ITV seem to concentrate on crappy 'Big Brother - type' programmes aimed at society's lowest common denominator!
Still, that's the way of the world.
