Re: Photo tips and tricks.

One tip that might be useful. before taking a photo is there a better shot by moving to the left or right.
below partially obscuring the castle with branches adds curiosity

Getting it right as below

If i had tried taking a shot a bit to the left =no foreground
if i had tried taking the shot a bit to the right -= tree obscurity.

So it pays to check if the composition can be improved by moving left or right a few feet

Foreground adds depth to the picture

Well that is what I think anyway

Re: Photo tips and tricks.

how to eliminate mesh from a photo (ie at a zoo)

No not through getting the lens where the mesh hole is.

What i do is get the lens as close to the mesh as possible using a finger tip to stop the lens hitting the mesh.
A camera will then focus more on the animal and the mesh will not show in the picture

his is a good example. if you look very closely at the greenery bottom right you may or may not see a very faint white blur which was part of the mesh

At the back show he mesh I was shooting through

Basic camera hold.

Search Results
Image result for correct camera holding technique

1 Keep your elbows together, against your chest.
2 Keep your left hand under the lens, rather than on the side.
3 Lean slightly into camera, holding it tight against the forehead.
4 Keep your legs open.
5 Same for shooting portrait, no excuses.
Great advice there. It amazes me how many people I see using thousands of pounds worth of camera kit with their elbows stuck out and zero stability. When beginners come to me for help the first thing I cover is the above.

You could be right there Bazza, however, it would have helped if you took the shots on the left and right as a comparison. To me, you could have moved left and taken out most of the foliage on the right. That distracts from the central theme, the castle. It's good to sometimes have a foreground theme too and perhaps by shooting at a lower angle would encapsulate the same foreground.

Steve

Think if I moved more to the left I would get a bit wet and to the right a good shot of the trees as below

so that was about the best position (almost)

Which brings me to another point. A still photo doesn't reveal anything about whee the photo was taken from. So, quite often it is not feasable to move from one place to another.

Next tip

Always give room in a picture for a moving subject to go into

Correct

Wrong ( cropped for demo purpose)

even a head on shot needs some room in front of the subject

not a good example but give the idea

Re: Photo tips and tricks.

tip
think of a picture is like reading a page in a book.
The eye naturally starts at the left and at the end of the written line comes to a stop and then goes onto the next line.

So if doing landscapes try and use something as a stop on the right of the picture, even if it is only a bush or tree.

Wrong
but sometimes can't be helped. this leaves the eye wondering what is on the right of the picture .The photo hasn't finished if you get what I mean

correct .
The eye can't and doesn't want to look more to the right as the tree blocks it

Well some might not agree but that is my thoughts on it and something I am constantly getting wrong
