Re: Gmail Problems

He definitely needs alerting to the fact that you are getting his personal information Swim. In the stuff you receive can you identify his correct e-mail address, or perhaps the incorrect one he might be using?

Re: Gmail Problems

As already said, no two users would get the same address.

So what I suggest is that this person either has mis-spelled his email address, in his password lookup table, or contacts list, or perhaps he is using voice recognition on his mobile or Tab.

After a quick look on the web, it seems that Gmail are not famous for sorting similar problems out.

Maybe you can find his real email address, if you look at all the stuff obviously to or from him rather than you, and watch out for someone in his list being copied on his outgoing/incoming message, then you night be able to ask that person what his real email address is.

Might not be easy.

I suspect that your password should not be at risk as this guy must be sending from his own outgoing mail server and is not using yours.

Re: Gmail Problems

Hi

I have sent an email to an account with a capital instead of all lower case.

No response.

I will write to him next, snail mail, recorded.

He lives in York, got the last bit of his postcode, easy to track down.

We have the same first and last names.

I know who he banks with, his mortgage company etc.

I get requests to change his password for Paypal, Amazon etc.

I had the account first, he can change it, not me.

1)If he has the same name, but in York, look him up in the phone book. Then phone him? He might be your long lost twin!

2) If amazon, etc, are asking him to reset it's probably because of this very problem.

I think that is bonkers Swim!

I wouldn't care who had it first, I'd get shot of it pronto.

You didn't answer my earlier question about is this bloke also receiving your personal mail?
Perhaps he knows as much about you as you do about him now!

Re: Gmail Problems

Swim

There's absolutely ZERO chance that there are duplicate accounts on Gmail, no way no how.

All that's happened is the other guy has mistakenly put your email address into one or more websites including his bank account and so on so those websites are simply sending emails out to your email address.

There is absolutely nothing for you to change here, your account is your account.

You do however need to contact either him or his bank asap and inform them of the mistake.

The more this guy inadvertently uses the wrong email address (i.e. yours) the greater the risk that you will get tied up in all manner of things. He might join gambling sites, porn sites, all sorts of stuff. He might engage in illegal activities.

The issue is simply that someone is registering YOUR email address with lots of different websites instead of registering their own. That needs nipping in the bud.

Hope you manage to reach him.

Re: Gmail Problems

I would change my email ASAP and close the account, to do otherwise is foolish.

You can trace an email from it's headers. Just Google for instructions

He has no need to close his email account. He is not in the wrong.

The other person is using his email when he registers on websites which is fraudulent. In this case it appears to be accidental but it might just as easily have been deliberate.
