Re: At last! Common Sense rearing it's Head.

Better to import from the other side of the world where they pay no wage?

Hi

A rare response now.

WTO Rules put Tariffs on foods.

If we abolish them, then under WTO Rules we have to abolish them on EU Foods as well.

The EU would love that, no tariffs on their food exports to the UK, but tariffs on UK Food Exports to the EU.

That is how WTO Rules work.

Better to import from other side of the world and spread the wealth is how I look at it, I'd rather improve lives of those farmers than keep all the farmers in the Eu rich.

Importing from the other side of the world will make very little difference, if any, in improvement to life of small farmers, it will of course make a difference to those already very rich farmer s. Those who have shambas grow mostly for their own use, others grow for the big export farms. The big farms in Africa are mostly owned by the wealthy Africans and the white Africans. The fruit farms are owned by companies like Delmonte. The only people you will be spreading the wealth to is owners of farms such as these.

A few listed below, but by no means all.

I'm assuming it will mean more employment clumsy, a wage packet for more people.

Re: At last! Common Sense rearing it's Head.

Importing from less developed countries tends to drive up the local prices so people who live there cannot afford staple foods or fresh fruit and veg. It's not a positive policy if you want to help those economies. We have plenty of high quality arable land in the UK. We have plenty of young people who need work. If someone can travel across Europe to do these jobs then I don't see why our young people turn their noses up :

"In reality, because demand is so huge, “fairly traded” crops exported for American markets often quickly displace local staple food crops, which in turn undermines local self-reliance and the sustainability of nourishing traditional diets."

Do we really need for example Broccoli sure it's nice and we eat a lot of it but it's labour intensive maybe we should concentrate on easy to harvest veggies .

Hi

Well on this one you would be well wide of the mark Julie.

We have a minimum wage and healthcare.

They have neither.
