Yep, this world has it's priorities right.
I think that the last statement is a bit unfair because probably most people agree with your feelings about the matter and the ivory trade is illegal throughout the world.
However as long as there is a demand there will always be someone willing to supply it whether it be through greed or just sheer poverty.
A great deal of the demand for 'parts' from threatened species comes from China and to their credit the Chinese Government has tried to combat this illicit trade especially through education as well as law enforcement but tradition runs deep and like drug trafficking there is lot of money to be made so it will likely continue for some time to come.
Let's hope the efforts to combat it are successful before the species is completely wiped out. Unfortunately if history is anything to go by it will be a close run thing when you look at the demise of mega fauna throughout the world since the last ice age.
