Lots of flats could be built on the land these hospitals stand on, once all the plebs have died the carpet baggers aka Tories can fill their boots.

There are times when I log in here and think I've dropped into the middle of a month Python sketch. Does anyone still believe that the Conservatives are going to privatise the NHS? If they were going to privatise it wouldn't the have done it years ago when they were in power for eighteen years? Would they have pumped millions of taxpayers cash into the bottomless pit that it is. Don't you think they would have been out by now?
This old chestnut has been trotted out by the left since I became old enough to vote and we're still waiting for those nasty tories to do it.
The problem is the left think people can't reason it out for themselves.

Admittedly some parts of it would be better off being privatised but that's another matter.

Figures detailing who is being awarded contracts to provide clinical services appear to undermine government’s claim 6% of NHS budget goes to private firms

Saturday 25 April 2015 00.25 BST

Profit-driven firms have been winning far more NHS contracts than ministers admit and privatisation has increased significantly under the coalition government, the latest evidence shows.

Two new sets of figures, detailing who is being awarded contracts to provide NHS clinical services, both challenge the government’s claim that only 6% of the service’s budget goes to private firms.

Contracts monitored by the NHS Support Federation campaign group show that private firms won £3.54bn of £9.628bn worth of deals awarded in England last year – a win rate of 36.8%.

And responses from GP-led clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) to a Labour freedom of information request reveal that private firms have been winning 40% of contracts CCGs have put out to tender, worth a total of £2.3bn, only slightly fewer than the 41% awarded to NHS bodies.

They did! In the 1980's Thatcher detached GPs from the NHS and made them into private businesses, shut down many hospitals, closed existing wards and announced the cost of the number of beds lost as extra funding. Tony Blair, to his credit, cancelled the privatisation of GPs and brought them back into the NHS. To replace the hospitals Thatcher had closed and sold off, he instigate PPI, for which we are still paying millions to private companies out of the NHS budget.

Huge swathes of NHS has been given away to private interests, mainly foreign, by the current government. Anyone who believes otherwise is deluding themselves. Or hoping to delude the rest of us.

Re: Vote of no cofidence for Jeremy Hunt???

If the figures quoted were published in April 2015 they probably refer to 2014, or knowing how tardy statisticians can be even earlier. Therefore they are not representative of todays government.

Since the last government was a Coalition between Lib Dem and Conservative can you see the Lib Dems letting the Conservative get away with anything? They spent most of their time obstructing legislation as they do today in the Lords.

In addition contracts for private work are not awarded by the government but by NHS England Commissioning, of which there are over 200 for the different Health Authorities. Perhaps it may be appropriate to lay the blame with them. In any case reading into a few old figures that the NHS is heading for privatisation is hardly sound thinking.
