Re: Get paid to test websites (Advert)

Anybody else tried this yet ?
I started to fill in the form but don't like giving out my personal information, so I'm giving it a miss for now.

Re: Get paid to test websites (Advert)

I would do plenty of research before joining any site like this. 15mins by myself seems to reveal that the company is legit and used by a lot of people however there are some interesting reviews out there about what kind of data is collected.

One person reports being asked for his utility provider details and when he refused the system kicked him out. He was then told to enter fake details.
All well and good but one wonders how far that would go. How much fakery is needed and what are the legal implications of say going through the process of renewing insurance with fake details?

Other reviews suggest that many people only get 1-4 jobs per month which is not much.

Having tons of free time on my hands and having been a professional IT person for 30 years with a great deal of experience of end-user expectations vs system technical specifications, this type of thing appeals to me, but I'm not happy playing with people's websites and entering lots of fake data. I'm also very puzzled as to why this company would want your comments recorded via a microphone and/or webcam. Why wouldn't you want a simple and clearly written report ?

Mulling.

Aha ... thanks very much for that.
I shall steer well clear I think. I am non-techy but tend to freak out a bit when I'm asked, initially, to give my name, date of birth and other personal stuff.

Re: Get paid to test websites (Advert)

Something else worth bearing in mind for those people who are still working. You would of course be responsible for declaring and managing your NI contributions and income taxation. Thus if you are already earning enough money to put you at the 20% tax bracket then you will be paying that tax on your earnings here. If the earnings are just £8 per test then 20% tax takes that down to £6.40 per test plus any NI.

From the Ts & Cs:

10.12.2 In such capacity the Tester shall bear exclusive responsibility for the payment of his or her national insurance contributions as a self-employed person and for discharge of any income tax and VAT liability arising out of remuneration for his or her work performed by him or her under this agreement.

Why would anyone need to test a website. Surely the designer would know if it's any good or not.

Yes. Not worth it for the dosh and hassle but, maybe, if at a loose end or wanting to feel useful, something like it would be OK.

Not true Longdogs.

The IT industry is awash with techy nerds and office bound analysts and designers. All these people are gifted but they are NOT typical end users.

These people may design a system which to them, achieves the functionality they want efficiently and systematically, yet at the same time, the actual customer/client/end user may think the entire thing is pants, backward, unintuitive and so on.

I've spent years in the field of user requirements and system technical design and specifications and there is a skill in being able to have a foot in both camps and being able to help end users realise their needs and requirements and state them in an effective way.

Take as an example the facility on this forum for uploading pictures to your profile albums. The designers would probably say that the facility works just fine, it operates quite correctly provided the user follows the process and does the right things. On the other hand, many Over50 yr olds can't get to grips with it and struggle. That's the difference between end-user experience and the system design.

The aim of the "WhatUsersDo" company is to gather and capture end user experiences so that they can be reviewed and the website made better as a result.

Be aware, very aware, wanting your Paypal information ?????? sounds dodgy to me.

Remember there is no easy money and alarm bells are ringing very loud in my ear.
I would not even open the link , you have no idea what hidden spy program could be in it that can monitor your computer and get your bank transactions you may do on line.

I have to express some surprise at AZZ allowing the posting, but i prefer to be over cautious.
If I wanted to do this "Survey" type of thing then I would seek out companies not the other way around

My son is in graphic art and design and lectures all over Europe and been head hunted by firms in the USA . He specialises in web design and an associate of a well know firm and travels the UK advising and designing web sites.
He advised me to steer well clear just incase.

He can be found here and it is way beyond me what he is on about
