Mine are the opposite. I have years of cuts and grazes so they are instantly recognisable. In fact one of the guys on immigration actually said to me 'Don't ever murder anyone'.

Would you care to elaborate on why the change of the current passport will curtail the `younger voters'` freedoms to travel and work? They can travel to wherever they wish (with the appropriate visas for some locations). The clue is in the name pass-port. As for work, how do you think we managed before we joined the EEC? A simple work-permit like those given to seasonal fruit-pickers working in Britain in the 60s and 70s will do the trick.

As for the NAVY blue cover, that colour was allocated to Britain by the League of Nations after the original cardboard travel permits were mothballed.

They're not going to be that original navy blue that changed into black with age, are they? Just a rather unpleasant Tory propaganda blue.

But the colour isn't that important, I'd just rather have a passport that gives visa free countries in 27 countries than a blue one.

I expect I'll buy a burgundy cover to cover the shame of the Brexiter associated one but that won't cover up what's lost in terms of no longer being able to travel, work, being part of the EU and belonging to a country whose actions and attitudes I could be proud of.

Why should we be forced to return to work permits when we could stay in the EU and keep what we have, which is so much better?

My favourite tweet on the subject:

"IDEA. People can choose the colour of their UK passport.
Maroon passport = you can continue to travel freely, work and live across the EU.
Blue passport = you can’t do any of that but you have a blue passport."

I like the tweet with a red first class postage stamp over a photo of the current passport and a blue second class stamp over the blue version. Then there's the pic pointing out that Dieu et mon droit is in French....

My cousin (in Yorkshire) posted this on his not to be mentioned page.

Best Christmas quote. "Only a fragile or foolish nation would judge a passport by its colour".

No idea who said it originally.

Oh dear. I do feel sorry for you. You must really be hurting in the knowledge that we are going to leave your precious EU.

Still, no good whingeing about it now. In fact, if you're quick you might be able to apply for French citizenship before we leave. Then you can have a French passport, with those lovely 'European Union' words emblazoned on its pretty red cover.

Are permits to work and travel within Europe such a hardship? It's just a few lines on a form and a signature. An advantage could be that a permit system could keep out known criminals from entering the UK and vice versa.

Who said that any proposed new passports will be `Tory` blue? As far as I'm aware, the new ones will be going back to the original colour of dark navy blue.

Indeed and, as SF said, we should issue ID cards to every person living here legally for that very reason.

They could be used for all manner of things, including NHS treatment.

No need - you can have a British Passport with "Dieu et mon droit" emblazoned on it - that's French by the way

Or perhaps you prefer the "Honi soit qui mal y pense" old French again (with a dash of German).

Excellent! That, of course, reminds us of how we used to own half of France 600 years ago. Those were the days.

Of course, like everything else, we went and gave it back to them...
like a quarter of the entire planet, including the Antipodean colonies!
