I'd like to be a routine person but can't be because family matters always need attending to. I'm hoping to become a routine person in a year or two.

No, no routine whatsoever other than a cup of tea on rising. That's the beauty of being retired.
Nice days more gardening, rainy days more tv, only clean if something looks dirty, only shop when cupboard is empty.
Maybe it's because I don't have a dog.
