The hotel had limited finances so how do you think De Bono solved the problem?
Closed the lift?

Re: Practical Solutions

Put in staircase - nope
Close the lift - nope

His solution was much cheaper than that

or ...

Hid all the clocks so people could not keep track of the time and gave them something else to do while waiting - newspapers/magazines etc.,

What was the solution developed to overcome this problem?

Re: Practical Solutions

Those revolving doors obviously (same reason as you use a butterfly valve as a control valve across a pressure differential)

Re: Practical Solutions

No solution was developed because none was needed. It's a non-problem.....

Re: Practical Solutions

Actually revolving doors were originally the solution to the problem caused by lifts, their movement creating a pressure differential in tall buildings but they are the solution to any problem with pressure differential between outside and inside.

The Post Office Tower had high speed lifts and I was told that when they originally were tested the air pressure underneath the descending lift caused the cable to pile up on the top so they had to add additional holes in the shaft to let the air out. (Can't say if that story is 100% accurate but there is probably an element of truth in it)
