Stop EU exit 'catastrophe', says UK Brexit minister's ex-chief of staff

https://uk.yahoo.com/news/stop-eu-ex...-business.html

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's exit from the European Union will be the country's biggest calamity since World War Two, the former chief of staff to Brexit minister David Davis said on Wednesday, calling for a new political movement to oppose the divorce.

The criticism from someone who, until May, had a ringside seat for Britain's exit preparations comes at a time when Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit strategy is the subject of open political debate after an ill-judged snap election in June badly weakened her position.

"It's the biggest calamity for our country since WW2, I'm afraid," said James Chapman, who ran chief negotiator Davis's office for nearly a year after the June 2016 EU referendum. He has since moved to work for a public relations firm.

Late on Tuesday he tweeted: "Past time for sensible MPs (Members of Parliament) in all parties to admit Brexit is a catastrophe, come together in new party if need be, and reverse it."

Chapman previously worked as an aide to then-finance minister George Osborne and worked on his campaign for 'Remain' in the run up to the referendum.

Before working for Osborne, he was political editor for the Daily Mail, an influential right-leaning newspaper which supported Brexit.

Who cares about the opinion of someone who used to work in DD's office. Good job they got rid of him, clearly a mole for the bitter Osborne

Why do some think they can ignore the democratic result of a majority vote to leave the EU? The people have spoken and they as our servants should listen.

The interesting point is that the media is becoming increasingly and vocally anti brexit. Just before the vote it was totally opposite. They don't have to publish his comments. The government wants them published. It's softening the public up for a different approach. We are all media puppets.

Hi

It is my view that we are heading for something of a disaster, simply because of poor planning.

It is over a year since we had a new Government and they have only just announced the the review of EU Immigration, which will not report until 6 months before leaving day.

There is no way that can go through Parliament and get the systems in place in time.

it is looking more and more like a having to have a transition period, and for that we will get hammered financially.

Anti brexit rhetoric has been getting louder, it's almost like they didn't like the result and want to ignore democracy.

Is it still democracy if a very short time after the referendum so very many people thought they had made a big mistake due to being misled by all the various lies being told?

Yes it is especially as repeated polls over the last year have seen more and more remainers saying they were mistaken too.
