Auxiliary power point

My auxiliary power point in my car doesn't work, thought it might be a fuse but I'm assured that's not the case. Consequently my sat nav won't charge.

I just wondered if I buy a mobile charger, like you get for phones, will that provide enough power for a sat nav ? And also which mobile charger would be best for the job ?

Do you mean a mains charger for the sat nav? They are available for Tom Tom, not sure about other makes.

I'm thinking mobile portable charger, you can charge the box by mains then carry it to recharge a phone etc away from home.

They do solar ones too.

Ours is a garmin sat nav.

Re: Auxiliary power point

I'm going to do that eventually but I can't get car booked in until after the weekend, I need sat nav Friday, and Amazon delivers next day started me wondering if the portage chargers I've seen people use for phones might do the trick.

Should work and they usually come with a variety of adaptors.

Re: Auxiliary power point

Well I think I'm going to order one, if it is as good as they say I can use it to give my phone a boost after a certain young lady has messed about with the games while we are out and I'm no where need a power point.

Re: Auxiliary power point

Can't see that a standard unit designed to charge a phone will have enough power to power a Satnav so check the wattage and current requirements on the Satnav before making your purchase.

Who assured you? hope not someone who only is guessing without checking as I posted below

Does the car aux power point only come on when the engine is switched on? Some turn off a short time after the engine is turned off,

Have to tried plugging in a cigar lighter into the power socket to see if that heats up?

Have you tried any other aux power socket in the car ?

Did you/they check the fuse in the car fuse box?

Should look something like this but may be different colour depending on fuse rating

if the wire bridge inside the plastic is split/broken then there is your problem

There should be somewhere a list of which fuse does what , either in the fuse box cover or in the handbook

Re: Auxiliary power point

No my husband found the fuse board and had a real good look, he may not be much use for some things but he is pretty good with things like this
