Brexit: UK looks to keep visa-free travel from EU

This is interesting. We are not planning border controls for eu citizens. I predict a continued flow of people in.

Hi

The EU are however strengthening their Borders with pre applied for Visas.

We are also saying there will be no checks on the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland and between Northern Ireland and the UK, the Common Travel Area.

I cannot understand how this is going to work as far as taking back control of our Borders.

It will change Annie eventually because many of us who voted won't put up with our democracy being ignored. I predict much civil unrest if they do this badly.

I can't see that happening. Most people don't feel that strongly about it. But it's a shambles for sure because it appears a huge waste of time and money.

Hi

Yes, I appreciate that Julie, but as I have regularly pointed out previously, the UK simply was not ready for Brexit.

The EU Immigration review has only just been commissioned, it will not report until 6 months before we leave, it then has to get through Parliament, which will not be easy and then we have to put in the infrastructure, design a new computer system and then train all the new staff necessary.

We are apparently looking at 2022 before anything significant happens on EU Immigration.

Makes no sense to have visas with the EU when we don't with other countries.

What exactly did you vote for, in terms of visa requirements and visitor entry arrangements?

When I voted in the Brexit Referendum, I must admit I didn't check up on travel visa arrangements going forward. I kind of assumed (and hoped!) that if we left the EU, we would still be arranging some kind of reciprocal visa-free travel arrangements, similar to those we have with Passport holders of very many other non-EU countries.

The way I read the OP news article, it seems the proposal is to check the passports at Border Control and stamp them, in the same way as we already do for other visitors from many other countries.
Would you rather we impose stricter visa rules on our European neighbours than we do for visitors from other continents, such as North & South America?
