You're lucky. Mine has been off all day. It just came back at 9.35pm.

I'd be interested to find out what caused this, but VM won't/can't say.

Im with BT and just down the road from the opening poster and all has been fine here in East Sussex since 5.50pm

Yes, it was on the news that BT had sorted their problem by tea time. Has anything been said about the cause?

BT are claiming it was not a cyber attack and Talk Talk are saying it was.
Anyway I bet it got a few high up bosses in BT backsides twitching

Virgin Media has been noticeably silent about the cause. I should have thought that, being pretty much a nationwide outage, they might have made some announcement on their web site. Perhaps they don't know!

I'm in the South West of the UK and I lost my internet connection for about 2 hours yesterday pm. I'm BT and frankly the service has been pants since I have had it but marginally better than Talk talk who were abysmal.

If two hours is pants, nine hours must be literally crap. Don't try Virgin Media or you'll crap your pants!
