Re: Benefits Britain!

not just the media, those claiming benefits and proud of it who simply don't want to work are all beating the system. They know how it works and take advantage of it knowing they don't have to lift a finger but if it's handed to them on a plate then no wonder they don't want to work when they can in many cases get more on benefits than if they had a job

Re: Benefits Britain!

Genuine people suffer for the likes of these scroungers. My mate's girlfriend has 3 children and lives in a big house provided by the council. Prior to where she lives now she had a brand new smaller house again provided for free. She never used to pay her phone bill, electricity bill etc and apparently she owed £1000s. Didn't bother her one bit as it is illegal to deprive the children of certain essentials. Her bills were quashed. Now she has a much larger house as she fell out with the neighbours where she was originally. Different boyfriend now but same old story. Apparently she would put ALL the lights on in all the rooms - TV on etc - and not turn them off ever. The next door neighbours, where she is now, complained as it was so bright and kept them awake at night. She just doesn't give a toss about things that would worry others to death.

Funny thing about the above is that she seems a nice enough woman and so are the kids - go figure.

Damn right. I have a son in his early 20's who is "lucky" enough to be on a zero hour contract at minimum wage. Some weeks he gets 6 hours, then for a week or two he may get 12 hours or even 20, then no hours at all for two or three weeks. How is an adult supposed to have a decent lifestyle or start a family on income like that? He doesn't know whether he has next week's rent money half the time.

He'd be so much better off on benefits!

I do feel for him I am only able to get 2 1/2 hours a day so I understand, luckily my husband is able to do extra shifts but if he couldn't I am not sure how we would be doing at the moment.

Re: Benefits Britain!

It is time the benefits system was sorted, lets face it who is milking the system, a woman with 8 children receiving £2000 a month, or a millionaire with a home abroad, receiving OAPension and getting heating allowance at Christmas and not paying his wack in taxes.

Re: Benefits Britain!

Problem is when ever they try they make such a pigs ear of it and hurt innocent people. Beginning to think it's not fit for purpose but not sure what the answer is. I think some would like work houses reintroduced !

totally agree! it's the scroungers and not those with genuine needs I'm talking about

Re: Benefits Britain!

the number of people with 8 kids is quite small

a lot of working people get housing benefit because wages are so low

we're subsidising employers
