Unlike doctors, they can't ask their patient where it hurts, or how long has this been going on for, how did the accident happen? etc.

Vets don't have half as much info to go on.
Imagine if we sat mute at the GP's, how would they get on with their diagnosis then?

Yes that' very true Mups. It's like when the doctor asks what wrong with you and you think , well that's why I'm here.

I do think animals try to communicate with us and the longer we have them the more we understand them but it's a slow process.

Hoping to hear some good news soon about Arthur.

Re: Poor Arthur

Heres the latest

They aren't 100% that it is pancreatitis although they are running with it. The can do more blood tests to be sent to England but she's saying even that may be inconclusive so will only go that route if preferred treatment doesn't work

The ulcer on his eye has crusted, this needs to be removed but right now he's too poorly so that has to wait. Hes also developed an ulcer in his other eye

Right now he's still in on two drips and is very lethargic. I got called out of work to go in to try get him to eat and he managed a spoonful of tuna and a couple of dreamies and he seemed to perk up a bit on seeing us both

Im to go in this evening and try to get him to eat again and this time the vet will have a bit more time to spend with us talking through things. Between her trying to get her own lunch, do a dental treatment on a dog and explain to us the plans forward, it was all too messy and Ive forgotten half of it already

They also hope to have found his rescue records and see if he had some sort of titre test when he was found. Luckily I knew his rescue name so at least the rescue will be able to help with that

So a slight improvement on yesterday but he's got a long way to go yet

Thank you all so much for understanding and sending us love and good wishes, it means a lot xxx

Re: Poor Arthur

Good news HES HOME

Went back last night and stayed with him to encourage him to eat, he managed about a quarter of a tin of Tuna, not his usual fare but we needed him to eat

Went back this morning and he was climbing up the bars to get to us, such a huge improvement and as he had eaten over night, Danni agreed home was the best place for him now

So he's home with a pharmacy worth of meds

Tablets for his heart, they have found a murmur

Lubricant for his eyes

Eye drops for ulcers

And most weird of all some of his own serum to be dropped into his eyes

We also have the usual metacam if he looks to be in pain

All the drops for the eyes have to be administered every four hours, 10 mins apart. Not an easy task but it has to be done. He's also on house arrest again, thats even harder then getting the eye drops in him as he really is an outside cat, only coming home to eat and sleep

Right now he's sprawled out across the carpet looking sorry for himself. He's a right hotch pitch cos he's been shaved in so many areas

So glad to have him home x

Re: Poor Arthur

Thanks for letting us know Missy, things are sounding much better.

Now he is home and under house arrest, maybe it should be you that we are feeling sorry for!
