My tribute to Lee Rigby (poem)

I like to write poems, Here is one I wrote as tribute to the young soldier Lee Rigby who died senselessly the other day.

Walking along, not a care in the world
When ever so quickly a horror unfurled
A man with a gun, another with a knife
Suddenly attacked, taking a soldiers life

H stood no chance, they acted too fast
He was being killed, as people walked past
Then came an angel to halt the madness
Those men had already caused too much sadness

People looked on as he died in the road
By now the world had gone into shock mode
Why did those men do this mindless act
It doesn’t make sense, that’s certainly a fact

A toddler no daddy, a Mother no Son
All because of men with a knife and a gun
All the soldiers and people worldwide
Will salute Lee Rigby whilst hurting inside

We’ll always remember the fateful day
When a soldier died in a senseless way
So dear Lee, we hope you sleep tight
We’ll shed a tear as we bid you goodnight

RIP LEE RIGBY

Re: My tribute to Lee Rigby (poem)

I hope you don't mind that I have enclosed your beautiful poem in a frame.

A few of us have served in the forces but to be killed on home soil is almost beyond imagination.

If you have not done so already you should submit it to one of the tribute sites.

Thank you for composing it.

Re: My tribute to Lee Rigby (poem)

bless you Michael, your comment and frame brought a tear to my eye. I have already submitted it to Lees facebook tribute page but I have no idea if it got out there. I do hope his family see my tribute, if not, it doesn't matter, the poem came from my heart anyway and I just wanted to get my thoughts out there. xxxx

That was so beautifully written, and from the heart, but you absolutely must copyright it lass by putting:

(c) name/username/date

As the wife of an ex-soldier that poem was very close to my heart.
