I wasn't even born doc. Another 5 years before I arrived. But I do know about him I think most people learn about him at some point.

Yes I remember Laika. I was 10 going on 11 and was horrified at the thought of how the poor dog must have suffered. I cried on and off for several days about the cruelty of it.

I agree Aerolor. Poor dog. How long was he/she up there?
What about her meals?
What about toileting?
What about company?

How could she possible understand why man was doing this to her. Very sad.
I can't remember the ending. Did they retrieve her safely or was she plunged into the sea and disintegrated when the thing landed?

ETA.
Just watched the video. She never came back. B*****ds.

I also don't understand in the video how Laika appeared as a little Jack Russel type of dog, yet it was a fluffy Spitz type dog they were shoving into the capsule?

She was up there until she died Mups. I doubt she would have eaten and toileting where she was - I doubt she had much if any room to move about. No company, of course. There was never any intention to retrieve her and that was what upset me. It's one of those cruel things which has stayed with me.

Re: do you remember Laika

Didn't read all of that, I feel too angry and upset Aerolor.

That article said in the headling how she died within hours, yet in the second paragraph it says it took a week to die.
It doesn't look as if she could even get to any water to lap when she was heating up.
Absolutely disgraceful. I like to think the buggers would never get away with that these days. There would be an outcry and animal rights would be there like a shot.
