Desk top computers

Gracie's getting to the point she really needs more than my iPad to do her school work on so we have been saving steadily towards a desk top for her.

They've changed a bit since we last had one and we are wondering if the all on one type are any good. Look quite sleek you don't have to find room for a tower but just need to find out if they are as good as they look.

Maybe as good but if the screen packs up or anything else then the whole unit needs sending back for repair. With a seperate keyboard -mouse- monitor and tower desktop if any thing apart from the actual computer can easily and quickly replaced. if getting one don't forget to get an extrnl hard drive as well as a backup. Nothing worse than her loosing all her school work as it is not backed up.

Why a desktop, won't a laptop suit her purposes more readily?

Hi Julie, I use a Desk Top, mine came from PC World, the Product is ASUS-PC, for work and school, called WORKGROUP.
Version: 1703 - Windows 10. I have a 17" Philips Screen.

No it's going to be a family computer Judd, laptop tends to dissapear into a certain young mans room and not be seen for days, if we have a desk top it's tethered to the living room. That way I can keep an eye on what's being searched for too. I trust grace implicitly at this time but she is heading towards a time I am less trusting as hormones and peers start to influence her choices.

Re: Desk top computers

Can't really help with a prebuilt one as I built my own,but you might get a better new one off ebay for the money I don't know but worth a look

Workgroup is only the description not the name of the computer

if it says 4 Gig RAM (random access memory) it is a 32 bit computer and more than likely unable to add more as that is the max a 32 bit computer can handle , i would suggest avoiding.
Why?
More than likely can only handle one or two projects at once, and for school work may need more.

better to go for a 64 bit one that can be expanded ie add more RAM etc if necessary.

Also look out for the size power unit in watts. A lot are only around 350watt and may not be powerful enought to handle multitasks , best go for one with 500watt +PU (power unit)'

Thank you that's really helpful. I can't claim to understand it all but I know a young man that can.
