Sticky malt loaf really easy

This recipe is really easy, hardest part is keeping it wrapped for a few days to let it mature https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/...ky-malt-loaves

Not for everyday it's a bit high calorie but my lot love this for Sunday tea once a month.

If you can get a decent butter to butter it up all the better.

But I challenge anyone keep it wrapped for long

I had a run on these from the shop , but had to put a stop to them they were so sticky ,the loaf type were terrible to slice .
I used "Carnt Believe its not Butter " nice on Crumpets too .

I find a bread knife cuts them pretty well if they are screen ones then wash the knife immediately.

Great recipe!
I decided to treat the other half (and myself, if I am honest).

However, I went shopping today for Malt Extract, but could not find it available anywhere. Holland & Barratt sell it, but was not in stock!

Is this a local problem for me, or has anyone else had the same problem?

Anyone any recommendations of a supplier?

Got mine from Holland and Barrett on line store Irene, and my neighbour who makes this a lot got hers from local Holland and Barrett. So it is out there. You can get it from anywhere sells brewing kits too I believe.

Thanks for that, Julie. I did go into H&B in town yesterday, but they were out of stock.

However, when I got home and did an internet search, I found a good offer on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
So, as soon as it arrives, we're in business!

Re: Sticky malt loaf really easy

Having finally gathered all of the ingredients together and found a suitable time slot yesterday, I made it (them).

We had a first taster tonight... Wow! It is truly yummy 😋.

Many thanks Julie. My DH is besotted!

Re: Sticky malt loaf really easy

I too made the malt loaves, gave one to my son and his wife. We all enjoyed them and it tasted very similar to the cold tea bread that I used to make when the kids were young. Thanks Julie.
