Re: 'Going Spare'

A lot of expressions come from a long time ago such as good night " sleep tight".
The sleep tight bit comes from when beds underneath had ropes to support the mattress. To get a good nights sleep say in an inn, a customer would ask that the ropes were tightened to make it comfortable and often paid for it to be done

Every time I see yet another cooking program on TV I'm inclined to "Fly off the handle" and the wife has to calm me down. Wonder where that expression originated.
