Re: Birds

Todays photo was inspired from a walk at the coast yesterday. Skylarks were singing their hearts out.

Hail to thee, blithe Spirit!
Bird thou never wert,
That from Heaven, or near it,
Pourest thy full heart
In profuse strains of unpremeditated art.

Higher still and higher
From the earth thou springest
Like a cloud of fire;
The blue deep thou wingest,
And singing still dost soar, and soaring ever singest.

Shelley.

First recorded in Anglo Saxon Times, fossil eveidence from 125,000 yeras ago. Now a Red Data bird in the UK due to plunging breeding populations

Re: Birds

There are some brilliant bird photos on here. This fellow is seen every year on a fishing pond near my home. People with fish ponds in their gardens have to net them as he feeds on their fish. A very handsome heron, if sometimes a nuisance.

Re: Birds

Hooded Crow on Mull. Closely related to our Carrion Crow. A bird Of North West Scotland with a few turning up over the border. They are black and grey so the pinkish hue is probably due to a combo of reflection and the cheap camera i used.

"Bird-watchers are tense, competitive, selfish, shifty, dishonest distrusting, boorish, pedantic, unsentimental, arrogant and - above all - envious."

Bill Oddie's Little Black Bird Book, a good read and comic introduction into the wonderful world of birders.
