Ladybirds

I haven't seen one ladybird yet!
I did notice an advert to buy them but you must have an aphid problem to start with, or obviously they will die.
And it is advised to put sticky stuff like bands round the base of trees/shrubs to keep off ants.
Would you consider buying them? - they look like two spot - the seven spot are getting rare.

Re: Ladybirds

I remember them by the millions in 'the long hot summer' of 1976. My office was smothered in them and I had to 'run the gauntlet' morning and evening getting in and out. Vicious little buggers that used to 'bite'!!! and could give you a nasty rash.

Re: Ladybirds

I saw three or four early on in the year. They seem to congregate in a crevice on the inside of my kitchen door frame but they were not there all winter so hadn't hibernated there. I wondered if they had come out of hibernation and taken temporary refuge there.

Re: Ladybirds

I have only seen one or two ladybirds this year and we never see the swarms of ladybirds like I did when I was young. We have got a lot of bees this year though which is good.

Re: Ladybirds

Sue, they were testing UJ out just in case they could eat him
No they do bite occasionally but in 1976 it was a hot Summer and
there were millions of them so little to eat. Its never really happened
like that since then. They used to go for the colour Yellow and my
silly Auntie went to Bridlington on a day trip in a dress - yes - yellow.
They swarmed around her and she had to be rescued from them
There is a giant ladybird seemingly from abroad which eats our 2
and 7 spot ones but haven't seen it yet. Cant remember where it was
from now.

Re: Ladybirds

I like ladybugs too, apparently there are over 500 species in Australia but the ones I see most are either red or yellow
